- Britney Spears called out fans for urging police to visit her after she took down her Instagram.
- She also said she felt “gaslit and bullied” by the media coverage around the incident.
- Spears has deactivated her popular Instagram account multiple times before.
Britney Spears tweeted that fans “went too far” after they reportedly called the police to check up on her for deleting her Instagram account of 41 million followers this week.
According to TMZ, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department paid a visit to Britney Spears’ residence in Thousands Oaks, California, for a wellness check after several fans phoned their office on Tuesday.
Even though Spears has attempted to de-escalate the situation, some of her fans were viscerally concerned, especially after she changed her Instagram name to River Red before she went dark.
In her first public statement since the incident, the singer denied that her followers had anything to worry about. Spears said she believed the police went to her house because of “prank phone calls” that went “a little too far.”

“I love and adore my fans but this time things went a little too far and my privacy was invaded,” she wrote in the tweet, which has garnered nearly 30,000 likes. “The police never entered my home and when they came to my gate they quickly realized there was no issue and left immediately.”
Insider has reached out to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
Spears added that she felt “gaslit and bullied” by media outlets portraying her and the incident in a poor light.
The post received a wave of support, with hundreds of people wishing her well and trusting her assurances. “Those are not fans. They are obsessive psychos who think they have the right to be privy to every detail of your life,” a journalist wrote. “You don’t owe anything to anyone.”
As of writing this story on Thursday, Spears’ account still remains deactivated. Insider has also reached out to her team for comment.
The singer has deactivated her account multiple times before, which has not previously incited widespread panic among her fans. However, the complex legal battle over her conservatorship in 2022 has made everyone, fans or otherwise, on higher alert over the popstar’s well-being.
